Waukon Veterinary Service has a new veterinarian that recently joined its staff. Dr. Laura May is new to the Waukon area but is not new to the Midwest having grown up in rural Indiana, not far from where she would later attend college in West Lafayette. Although she did not grow up on a farm, her interest in veterinary medicine began at a young age and continued with her involvement in 4-H and FFA in her elementary and high school years.
Dr. May is a 2019 graduate of Purdue University in West Lafayette, part of Indiana’s state university system, earning both a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree. As part of her training in veterinary medicine, Dr. May studied abroad in Australia, working with large cattle operations, as well as off-campus clinical rotations in Texas, Missouri, Idaho and areas in northern and central Indiana. Dr. May’s greatest interest is in large animal medicine but she also enjoys working with small animal clients.
In her free time, Dr. May enjoys camping, the outdoors, watching movies and traveling. Her hobbies include sewing and quilting.
